Tool Crib Worker (PT): Art Center College of Design

Description: The Tool Crib Worker’s responsibilities involve issuing tools and materials (which may include sheet material and foam blocks weighing up to 100 lbs), and fielding questions from students on materials and procedures while guiding them on the safe use of Model Shop hand tools. These tasks are often carried out simultaneously, so the ability to multitask is necessary. This also requires the capacity to maintain a good-natured, even tempered disposition with the ability to remain calm under pressure while helping students toward the completion of their projects.

This is an on-call position, and hours can range from 6 – 20 per week during the school term.

Essential Functions

• Issuing in and out of tools and materials using web checkout

• Keeping track of inventory and reordering when needed

• Retail sales including the use of a cash register and computer

• Restocking inventory items and ordering supplies as needed

• Maintaining a safe work environment throughout the department

Qualifiations:

Some experience using basic wood and metal working tools is required

Basic computer skills are necessary

Experience using large power tools is a plus

Effective verbal communication skills and service oriented skills

Must be a team player

Must have the ability to work evening and weekends

Research Assistant for Latin American Art: Museum of Contemporary Art

Overview
The Research Assistant is responsible for the research and coordination of one major international exhibition on Latin America abstraction (1930 mid-1970s). Under the supervision of the exhibition curator, duties include conducting research on artists, objects, exhibitions, and other related subjects; organizing and maintaining research files; assisting with multiple aspects of exhibition organization including communication with artists, lenders, and galleries throughout Latin America, Europe and the United States; database entry and report generation; correspondence; and providing administrative support related to the exhibition including drafting label and didactic content, obtaining images for research and catalogue use and necessary permissions, serving as the departments liaison to collection management, conservation, education and other internal departments, in connection to the planning and implementation of the exhibition.

Requirements

• Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (written and oral). Possession of a M.A. in art, art history or related subject, and knowledge of Latin American art. A minimum of two years of administrative support experience. Ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, and also Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Photoshop. Knowledge of The Museum System (TMS) database preferred. Must possess excellent interpersonal, grammar, writing, organizational and office skills, and be able to perform art historical research.

Essential Functions

• Perform research, make photocopies, and compile information on exhibitions, artists, and art works in MOCAs library and local and specialized libraries. Some travel may be required. The Research Assistant may be asked to incur expenses for parking, transportation, photocopying and other research needs that will be reimbursed by MOCA.

• Compile catalogue back matter including general bibliography and exhibition chronology, artists bibliographies, and other information as required.

• Draft correspondence for the exhibition curator, generate own correspondence, and organize and maintain research and exhibition files.

• Assist with preparations for advisory committee meetings and related travel arrangements.

• Assist with locating potential loans and images, scan images into TMS database, obtain lender contact information for objects and copyright information for images.

• Enter and update exhibition object information into TMS database; generate checklists, lender lists, mailing lists, and other reports as required.

• Generate loan forms and loan request letters from the exhibition curator, prepare loan form packets, conduct loan request follow up as necessary, and process approved loans.

• Compile and communicate special installation requirements and photography restrictions as conveyed by lenders.

• Work with Development and Communications departments on image and information requests.

• Physical Demands

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit for long periods. Must be able to bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions. Physical mobility skills to move throughout the museum and its offices. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Heavy usage of phones and computers.

Director of Development (FT), Fowler Museum, UCLA

Position Summary: The Director of Development reports to the Museum Director and oversees all fundraising programs and activities for the Museum.

Primary Responsibilities: In response to the Museum’s short term and long term programmatic priorities the Director of Development will cultivate existing prospects and develop a pipe-line of prospects; develop solicitation strategies for particular programmatic objectives; implement private sector major giving program; and coordinate involvement of University development office, volunteers, Museum staff and the public. Manage, cultivate, and build a volunteer board and oversee the management of volunteer special interest councils. Arrange opportunities for the Museum Director and other staff as appropriate to meet with donors and volunteers in forums designed to engender increased interest in and support of the Museum. Oversee all aspects of the Museum’s membership program. Oversee the preparation of all aspects of grant applications and proposals and ensure timely final reporting. Supervise assistant director of development and membership coordinator, and other departmental support staff.

Qualifications

1. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of development and fundraising, preferably in a museum setting.

2. At least five years experience working in museum development is preferred.

3. Experience in working with non-profit boards.

4. Ability to conceptualize and implement identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies for individual, corporate, government and foundation giving.

5. Established contacts within greater Los Angeles giving community are preferred.

6. Familiarity with art history, topical issues in the humanities, and trends in global cultural programming within public arts institutions.

7. Ability to work evenings and on weekends, as needed.

8. Excellent written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to conceive and produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, letters of acknowledgment, proposals to individuals, corporations, and foundations, grant applications and interim and final reports.

9. Demonstrated excellent oral communication skills.

10. Skill in organizing material, information and people to optimize efficiency.

11. Demonstrated facility with word processing, database and electronic mail personal computer programs.

12. Ability to command respect and trust among staff, peers, board and funders.

13. Ability to represent the museum to donors, foundation and corporate executives, artists, museum members and others. Continued employment contingent upon completion of satisfactory background investigation.

Mellon Post-Doctoral Curatorial Fellowship (FT), LACMA

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) announces a search for candidates for the Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellowship. This two-year fellowship in the museum’s Ancient Americas department will provide curatorial training and support scholarly research in connection with the permanent collection and related projects at LACMA. Striving to combine the strengths of academic art history and the art museum, this Fellowship is designed to attract exceptional emerging scholars to the curatorial field. The Mellon Postodoctoral Fellowship supports the highest level of professional development, with opportunities to be fully integrated into all aspects of curatorial work. The future Fellow will gain experience in research and cataloguing, exhibition organization, education and publications, conservation, public speaking, and provenance research. A major project for the Fellow will include assisting in the preparation and installation of the department’s yearly gallery rotation. During his or her first year the Fellow will work under the supervision of curatorial staff to research an aspect of the permanent collection for the following year’s rotation. He or she will work with related departments to prepare the rotation and associated programming. In addition, the Fellow will assist curatorial staff with the research of upcoming exhibitions.

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in art history or closely related discipline. Candidates with field experience or familiarity with region are strongly encouraged to apply. Proficiency in Spanish (reading and writing) is required.  Prior museum experience, ideally involving art, literature, and culture of the Ancient Americas is preferred. Excellent writing, organizational, and public speaking skills, together with a strong interest in the interpretation, care, and display of works of art, is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively. The goal of this Fellowship is to provide opportunities for a talented scholar to learn how to translate their knowledge of ancient American cultures within the space of a museum. Graduates of the Fellowship program will be uniquely prepared to embark on curatorial careers.

The position starts in October 2014.  The annual stipend of $50,000 includes compensation ($36,400), benefits, a travel allowance, and modest funding for relocation. Curatorial Administrator (FT), LACMA

Art of the Ancient Americas

Reporting to the Director for the Program of the Ancient Americas and the Curator, the Curatorial Administrator provides administrative and general office support to the department.

Some duties include: maintains and updates permanent collection information; assists with ongoing projects including exhibitions, permanent collection rotations and loans; answers incoming calls and requests from the general public; coordinates and maintains appointments and calendars; makes travel arrangements for the dircector, curatir and other department staff; handles and tracks the departmental paperwork; facilitates communication between the department and other museum staff.

The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Art History or related field, ideally with a specialized knowledge of the Ancient Americas and museums, and at least one year of administrative experience. Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English and Spanish are required, along with complete mastery of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word).

Gallery Manager (PT), Arts Council for Long Beach

The Arts Council for Long Beach is interested in hiring an arts professional to manage The Collaborative Gallery at 421 W. Broadway. The Collaborative is a partnership between the ACLB, Museum of Latin American Art, Lyon Communities and the City of Long Beach Development Services. Director of Advancement (FT), USC Kaufman School of Dance

The newly established USC Kaufman School of Dance is seeking a Director of Advancement to oversee and set goals for all fundraising related activities of the School. This position will report directly to the Dean and will work in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Advancement. This individual will be the primary officer overseeing all activities related to advancement, major gift solicitation, corporate/foundation relations, planned giving and donor stewardship. Additional responsibilities include campaign planning and management, prospect identification/research, grant writing and advancement communications.

The Director of Advancement will be responsible for managing the day-to-day fundraising operation for the School. This includes setting fundraising goals, policies, strategies and stewardship guidelines, as well as identifying, cultivating and soliciting major prospects. Furthermore, this individual will oversee and provide leadership guidance to volunteers, support groups and respective fundraising efforts, activities and/or events, ensuring everything is planned and implemented efficiently. Operations Manager (FT), New Roads School

New Roads School, a K-12 independent school in Santa Monica, is seeking an
Operations Manager for the new Capshaw-Spielberg Center for Arts &
Educational Justice, which houses the Ann and Jerry Moss Theater, a
344-seat state-of-the-art theater, and the Leadership Center, a 2,000
square foot community forum.

This pivotal position needs knowledge and skill in several areas including:
(1) office management and communication; (2) facilities maintenance and
oversight; (3) scheduling; (4) technical theater; and (5) administration of
performance contracts. This position will report to the Business Office
and will operate as „control central‰ of the building, with direct
communication and personal interaction with New Roads Administrative staff,
Facilities and Security departments, Technical staff, faculty, students,
and outside artists and production crews. This person will handle all
inquiries for rentals and special events, and maintain all scheduling
coordination with the school‚s master calendar. This is a full-time
salaried position ($45-50k DOE) with full benefits, that will often require
working during evenings and weekends.

BUILDING & FACILITIES

Student Review Coordinator/Web Assistant (FT), California Institute of the Arts

CalArts, an institution of higher learning recognized as a national leader in art, dance, film/video, music, theater and critical studies seeks a Student Review Coordinator/Web Assistant in our School of Art.

This is a full-time position which only works during the academic year from September through May (38 weeks).  Under the supervision of the Dean and the Associate Director, performs duties necessary for the operation of the school.  Also communicates directly with all offices of the Institute, faculty, students and the public to gather or convey information pertaining to school activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

-Responsible for organizing, overseeing, and attending all student mid-residency, graduation and special reviews for the School of Art

-Attend student review meetings, take notes, transcribe notes and prepare and distribute review report

-Develop and maintain student review database system
-Act as Web Assistant and work collaboratively with the Dean, the Associate Director, and Program Directors to maintain the content for the Art School’s section of the Institute’s web site, ensure accuracy and timeliness of content
